In response to Delusions, and plan of Eber Howe (publisher of Mormonism Unvailed) to serialize it with publication of a 1st installment on March 8, Rigdon pre-emptively revealed D&C 45 on March 7. In it, he condemned the critics to hellfire.
And calamity shall cover the mocker, and the scorner shall be consumed; and they that have watched for iniquity shall be hewn down and cast into the fire (D&C 45:40)
